27 Apr 2010 Celebrating Earth Day’s 40th Anniversary

Earth Day hit an important 40th anniversary this year on April 22, and there was plenty of green-minded staff and attendees celebrating the planet at Naperville’s Holiday Inn Select.

The environment’s concern is becoming a huge part in people’s lives, in which I went over to Naperville, Illinois to lend a hand in helping our Earth become a better place.

Holiday Inn’s “Going Green” committee, Department Chair Anna Mattson and her team put together the celebration starting out at Naperville’s Seager Park. For two hours, we collected eight trash bags or garbage. more…

10 Feb 2010 Hammers for Haiti

The Hyatt Regency Woodfield, located in Schaumburg, Illinois has partnered up with the Salvation Army to deliver Hammers to Haiti.

The idea all started when Frank Buchberger who is Director of Facility Management at the Hyatt was watching the devastation take place in Haiti, and had noticed that the people he saw had nothing but their hands to dig through the rubble. Frank realized they need the basics, which then he started the drive. He then called the Salvation Army for their support and they were quickly on board.

Hammers along with other basic tools can be brought to the Hyatt Regency daily between the hours of 8am to 5pm starting now though March 15, 2010. The engineering department at the Hyatt has not only donated to the drive but has been taking up their personal time to help get the tools ready to be shipped out.

Spring time!! As the dreary days of winter begin to brighten up, a short weekend getaway is exactly what is needed! The fantastic thing about this country is that we really do have it all when it comes to vacation. Fuel prices are lower once again (for now!) and this is the relatively cheap time for flights making a short break all the more tempting. more…

When I was given the opportunity to stay at the Ambassador East hotel I immediately jumped at the chance! With the hotels famous back catalog of celebrities that have walked the halls and have stayed in the rooms at the Ambassador East was an exciting feeling itself and to be able to enjoy the same feeling they got when they stayed here. Pulling up to the hotel, I was greeted right away with a friendly “hello” from the car valet and immediately felt the star treatment had begun. more…

Since 1926 The Ambassador East Hotel has been an important feature in Chicago’s ‘Gold Coast’. Originally a two hotel complex consisting of the Ambassador East and West, this unique set up meant that sometimes when guests checked into one Ambassador hotel they would discover their room was located in the other Ambassador hotel! To solve this problem the hotel had underground tunnels built beneath the road that lead from one hotel to the other allowing guests to avoid the hustle and bustle of the streets of downtown Chicago. Two tunnels ran parallel to one another. One was the servant’s tunnel and the other, the guest. This tunnel was known as Sarah Siddon’s Walkway, the woman famed for bringing theatre to America. more…
